But speed rating is not the same as throughput. A 555 is a flatbed. Slide a finished sleeve onto that bed and you have to twist and support it while the machine sews. For a narrow cuff, that's a ton of extra handling. The stitch is a 301 lockstitch, per the ISO 4915 classification, and the stitch quality can be perfect. The problem is not the stitch; it's the reach.

The distance between the needle and the machine tower gives you room to move an entire quilt sandwich sideways and backward. The 555 can do a straight seam all day, but trying to free-motion quilt a king-sized quilt on a flatbed is an exercise in frustration.
