My JUKI is skipping stitches right now—what do I check first?
I get this call a lot, usually from someone standing over a machine with a deadline hanging over them. Here's the checklist I walk them through, in order:
- Change the needle. Everyone wants a more complicated answer. It's almost always the needle. A bent or dull needle skips like crazy, especially on knits. If you can't remember when you last changed it, that's your problem. Period.
- Re-thread completely. And here's the thing that trips people up: the presser foot has to be UP when you thread the upper tension discs. I once had a customer insist they'd threaded it correctly. They had—just with the foot down, so the thread never seated properly. Result: nests on every stitch.
- Check your needle/thread match. A size 14/90 needle with thin 60-weight thread won't play well. The thread rides in the needle's long groove, and if it's too thin, it won't catch properly. Match the needle to the thread: Nm 70-90 needles for standard construction thread.

Is a used JUKI DDL-7000A still worth buying?

Caveat: not every industrial machine is equally good at heavy work. A standard DDL-8700 with the right needle handles denim fine. But for thick leather or multi-layer upholstery, you want the LU series—compound feed, walking foot. Different class of machine, worth the extra money.
Realistically, how fast is JUKI repair and delivery in the US?

Rush repairs—the kind where you're willing to pay for speed—carry a 50% premium and usually happen in 24-72 hours if the part is in stock.
